Safedisk 2.80

I've been trying to copy Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 all night long with no luck as of yet. Attempting to make a 1:1 copy using a Lite-On 48x24x48 burner (48246S firmware SS06). I'm using the latest version of Alcohol 120%, what reading and writing speed should I be using to make this copy? If I select Safedisk 2 in the datatype box, it set's my speeds to maximum. I've tried burning at 4x with no luck, should I burn even slower? Thanks for any help.

I think it's because of your cd writer

I have a plex writer and I have no problems at all with making functionally copys from my original cd's like commandos 3 third cd or medal of honor...
I had before an lg writer and wasn't able to copy protectd games,
with plextor I resolved all my problems
Now with clone cd and clone xxl and plextor everything it's possible.

Hi Folks, for your information, the copyprotection of "Commandos 3" third CD and "MOHAA" is Safedisk 2.60, now is it 2.80, like "NFS- Hot Pursuit 2". I'am certain that a Plextor- CDWriter can't handle the EFM- Coding, it was a statement from the CEO of Plextor, that PLEXTOR- Burner are only to burn data, not copying copyprotected software, EFM is not implemented in Plextor's firmware and also in future products. I use a Plextor 12/10/32 TSi, i'am unable to make a working 1:1 Copy of my "NFS- Hot Pursuit 2". i used CloneCD, BlindWriteSuite 4.2.5, DiscDump 1.10 and Alkohol 120%. I will buy another Burner, like YAMAHA CRW 1 or another.

i used alcohol 120% to copy Spearhead successfully (its safedisc 2.8.10)
just loaded up the default safedisc two settings and it took me 15 minutes to make a 1-1 copy
my burner is a Liteon 241002b with latest firmware
clone cd couldn't handle it
didn't try using blindwrite\read as alcohol is so easy to use and is the dogs bollox

you sir, are a dumbass. you have no idea what EFM means, as there isnt a cd recorder in production today that does not have an EFM decoder. its a part of the cd standard. please understand what you are saying before you say it.

and on your other point, plextor refuses to acknowledge that their burners are capable of burning any copy protections, but EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER knows otherwise. so please, feel free to remove your head from your ass anytime you like.

i know to 100% what EFM is and what EFM do, Eight to Fourteen- Modulation, a bit-pattern, took your head from your ass podunkviller, i'am not your little boy, not offences here.
I'am sure that not every burner have EFM- Coding, the statement from the CEO from Plextor isn't a fake, it's really true, he said this on Comdex in Nov 2001. think what you will, it's your own decision. My Plextor 12/10/32 TSi cannot handle EFM and that's true. When Plextor have implemented EFM is their Firmware is that ok for everyone.

now i totally agree with you cirkutz, i've investigated, now have all burners, also Plextor, the EFM- Coding implemented, my burner is 2 years old, plextor 12/10/32 tsi and have it not, the 16/10/40 had EFM and all newer. i think in Nov 2001 was not clear was EFM is and what that do, maybe the CEO of Plextor Corp. think that only for copying SD2 or another copyprotections, that he make this statement.for me is only important that i have a copy for LAN-party, some games disappear from the table, when i go to the restroom, not only honorable people at the LAN-partys.

Ironmad before you waste your $$ on a new burner because you feel the plextor can't burn safedisc 2.8 try this....

I worked for me using Plextor 24/10/40

Clone CD 4.2.0.2
Save image using protected game profile
Burn disc using protected game profile but adjust speed to 8X

thx shirls, i will try this, cloneCD 4.2.02 have a new feature "Emulate Weak Sectors", maybe is that the right. I've copied a SD 2.80- Game "007 Nightfire" with alcohol 120 %. I must make a decision, clonecd or alcohol, to many burnprogs on a OS can make problems.

Urban Legend

- or -

bad OS

and for EFM: every f*ckin burner is able to do correct EFM decoding, but for a succesful copy you need encoding.

For godsakes, listen to Cirkutz. ALL drives have had EFM since the first cdwriter was developed, it's part of the specification for how data is written/read. Safedisc 2 tries to feed the EFM mechanism a byte pattern that overflows a certain buffer, making the results deviate from what they should be. The protection checks for these results and complains if they differ. If I recall correctly, the trick is a kind of repeating pattern that would never occur in 'normal' data and that would cause the EFM to overflow and give back a different result. Now the fact is that each cdwriter has EFM, but some writers have a better EFM mechanism than others, those writers will give the correct result even when the copy protection patterns are used. In other words, those drives are immune to the bad patterns used in safedisc 2. Since what safedisc 2 does is essentially illegal (against the specifications of cdrom), it's no wonder that a lot of writers succumb to this. The writers that succeed are the two sheep drives you can find on CloneCD's webpage. The other drives also contain EFM only they fail when they get invalid data fed.

Now try to understand once and for all : ALL writers contain either a working EFM or a working EFM that can also survive the nasty data that safedisc 2 uses.
