age of empires 2

i can't figure this out.

i have aoe2 and expansion pack and everything works fine. but when i try to do multiplayer at zone.com it says it can't detect the game. should i put the game in the default directory (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\) or is there a way to edit the registry for this? or what? any reply will be appreciated.
