1. If you upgrade to the newest firmware, 1.33, it doesnt matter. They are the exact same drive. The A04 is even recognized as a 104 by your computer. It doesnt really matter if you upgrade or not. But why not be up to date?
2. Yes, PrimoDvd works great with the A04. 3. You dont need RecordNow Max if you have PrimoDvd. Plus PrimoDvd is free. You can get PrimoDvd from cdrsoft.cc Click on downloads on the left and then search for primodvd. 4. If you are in the US then Verbatim is best followed by TDK. If you are in the UK then go with Traxdata. Hope this helps. Have fun with your A04.

What is "High-speed write" media?
The DVD Forum (http://www.dvdforum.org) has standardized a new "High Speed Write" DVD media format, which supports Max 4X record capable DVD-R media and Max 2X record capable DVD-RW media. By using this media with compatible drives, you can write disks in double or quad speed as compared to existing media. the DVR-103 and DVR-104 model DVD-RW drives, may not recognize he new "High Speed Write" DVD media format. Furthermore, there is a possibility that the drive or media will be damaged if the computer is operated with the new media inserted. It is only blank high-speed write media that may cause damage to the drive or the media. Content already written on new media may be played back on the drives without risk of damage. Please note, that there is no issue with the Pioneer DVD-RW drive (DVR-103, or DVR-104) as long as you do not use the new "High-speed write" media that will be introduced later this month. What will this update do? Although the Pioneer DVD-RW drive (DVR-103 or DVR-104) is not compatible with "High-speed write" media, with the updated program, the drive will be able to detect the new media. Once the drive can detect the new media, there is no longer the possibility of it causing damage to the drive or the media. It is important to note, however, that the updated program will only allow "High-speed write" media to write in single speed for both DVD-R and DVD-RW media |
