CD/DVD and Laser Problems

Hey, guys! I've been reading about laser problems and DVDRs/CDRs and just wanted to check something. I've been playing mostly CDR based games and have only 1 DVD Rip (Spiderman, which makes that horrible squeaking noise quite a lot). I've read that there are 2 different lasers for CD and DVD. If I just play CDR based games (not rips), is the laser pretty safe? I also wanted to check on DVDR copies. I imagine these would be better than using CDR rips. I have a NEO 2.4 (if I remember right) and use GS. When I had the chip installed, I remember that he soldered in a little capacitor after the chip. It was just a tiny little square. Something about EA games. I'd appreciate any info. The Stickys get a little bit confusing.

Just playing CD-R based games will not make you laser safe....
The PS2 is just like anything else, the more you use it, the quicker it will wear out.....
My personal opinion is to stay with 1:1 copies and avoid rips....( BUT thats just my opinion )
The other thing that is going to KILL your laser is the NEO chip... The NEO line of chips sends too much voltage to the laser and thus will burn it out...(That is probably why the capacitor was installed) The capacitor will help prolong the lasers life BUT it will still burn it out eventually....

The capacitor is to filter the pulse from pin2, it has nothing to do with EA games.. Like BG said, it will slow it down laser wear but not eliminate it. Neo chips suck IMO. Depending on how bad it is worn you may want to update to a no swap chip, If not sell it and get a v7 with messiah 2.

Thanks, guys! I only run the PS2 for a couple hours a week. If that at all. I know everything wears out with use, but do think that the amount I use it is worth getting a new chip right away? I've talked to friends and some say it is and some say not to bother. You guys are all pros at this so I'd take your advice before theirs.
