Empire Earth and its .cabs?

Hi,
I'd like to make a backup of Empire Earth, by making an Image-file, opening it with ISOBuster and then I would like to open the 2 data.cap-files with WinZip or something like that. (I think in this .cabs the GAME.exe file is. I would like to change it to a NO-CD exe and then by installing the game, the NO-CD Patch will be installed automatically.) BUT, WinZip says: "cannot open C://blabla/blabla/FILE.cab because it is not in the standard Microsoft Cab format (as defined in mid-1998) The signature bytes required by the Microsoft CAB specification are missing.

So what now???

If you can, please help

thx

to handle InstallShield .cab files, use i6comp (http://protools.cjb.net).

there's a lot of information in this forum about i6comp, so do a search...

yep, it is normal, as i6comp is a "real" win32 application working with commandline parameters.
first open a MS-DOS window (you can run Command.com in the c:\windows or c:\windows\system(32) directory, i'm not sure), then go to the directory where i6comp.exe is located, then type "i6comp" (without the quotes) to show a help screen.

Again, if you search for them two posts, then you'll find it a lot easier.

Edit:
To save you having to click the search button, I've done it for you. Have a look at these two threads - it's a bit of reading, but the info is there.

make sure the data1.cab and all *.hdr files is in the same directory as i6comp.exe

btw, you best copy the i6comp.exe to your c:\windows directory or another directory mentioned in your PATH variable. then you can execute i6comp from every directory you want.
