question about booting games without a mod-chip

Ok people told me that I could boot my ps2 games without a mod-chip but in the long run it would damage my ps2, so i went out and bought a gameshark 2 and made a backup up tekken tag tournament, do i need a patch? I have a US version 4 ps2. And can someone give me instructions on how to do this? thanks.

Tutorials Section please.

All of your backup questions should be answered in the tutorials section of in the PS2 section of this sites affiliate:

www.consolecopyworld.com

As for the no-mod swap. DON'T DO IT! At least get a cheap no-solder mod or SOMETHING. You can, and eventually will screw up the drivetray mechanics.
