Burning cds at high speeds question

I heard that you gotta burn like 4x and below to gaurenttee the backups to work. Is this true, and why is that... i heard they got like a 4x cd rom drive on the psx... but i burn audio cds at 16x and they still work on normal cd players with a 1x drive. I just would like to know... beucase it will take months to backup my games at 1x

Data speed and Audio speed should be set to 1x as a rule of thumb.if you want to go faster You risk corruption of your data, you also risk a extraction failure on a disc that is less than perfect. If you capture at more than 1x you will also sacrifice video and sound quality, period. Do not let anyone tell you different, there is some sacrifice no matter what.

I have had the best luck doing just like he said in the previous thread. It will miss some bits, or miss intrepret them. And you will or may end up with a less than perfect copy. Therefore, here are some tips, read slow to the hard drive and then from the hard drive to the cd, at a slow speed. good copying...

I agree with the guys. If you want a flawless copy, stick to burning from an image at 1x. If you have BURNproof, you will probably get away with 4x. But again for 100% working copies stick to 1x, and never copy directly from the CD.

The reason for this is firstly there are files that have to be copied, and are easily skippped or misinterpreted when in the burn process. Also because there is usually audio and video, so for perfect results, turn the speed way down!

I heared that the newer model psone's have a lower powered laser, so thats why you burned at a lower speed.

I think a lot depends on the Burner & Media you use. For example I use a Plextor with Verbatim discs & get away with burning everything at 8 speed. Used to have a crappy LG burner which would only work at 2 speed for psx & ps2

what model lg burner were you using. i have a lg-gce-8160b and i have no problem no matter what speed.

Can't remember exactly what model it was all I know it was 8 speed and came bundled with my PC. Soon flogged it & got myself a Plextor

One more thing that can happen if you burn at faster speed is that the burner starts at one speed and after some burning it speeds up to higher speed and continue burning. My Lite-on 24102B does that if I use 16x or higher i think and it shows if you check the disc after burning you can see where it speeds up. If you do there is no way it will work in a PS One, in a older model I don't know. Burn as slow as possible. Read as slow as possible.
My lite-on can read in 1x but can only burn i 8x as minimum.

it cant go one speed around the whole disc when its that fast, silly , its a physics problem

Check this link up and choose your drive. They have the technical data and rewiew for most rw-drives. You can see what speeds it will use CLV (constant speed) or Z-CLV (diffrent speed).

I copy my games at 8X and ther copys are perfect. At first i tried copying at 1X, but there were still problems like the sounds would skip, or the video would freeze. so i tried it at 8X and my copies are perfect, more then perfect. It depends on what kind of burner you have (I have a TDK, THE BEST THERE IS!!) and the program you use (I use Nero, ALSO THE BEST THERE IS!!)
