i need HELP!! please!!

Ok well i want the NO CD option on Civilization 3 but i'm confused as to how it works. I download the file and then what do i do? It says to replace the other EXE file but i can't seem to get it to work. Am i doing something wrong? If someone can please take the time and tell me step by step i'd appreciate it greatly. Thank you
