Backing up CDs, NEED HELP PLEASE

I Have got a SAMSUNG DVD/CDRW COMBO that states in clonecd that it is RAW-DAO compatible and seems to run the backups fine, but i cannot install from the back up cds, this makes them almost useless as a backup if i loose the original and have to format my harddrive. Is this a common problem or am i doing something wrong?
