A Question for those experienced burners

I'm new to the CD copying/backing up scene and based on what I've read so far on copying newer games, it seems like it's a rather difficult ordeal. Is it possible to come out with an exact CD copy that works, without applying patches and doing all kinds of strange things each time you install the game or try to play it?
