Does the gameshark you you actually make a differance?

Cause i use a GS2 ver. 1.2 and i can play most games with it, but recently i have been downloading the kalisto dvd rip games and some of the games dont work, after the gameshark screen goes black, the game just doesnt load. im not sure if this is because of the gameshark or what? I use a neo 2 modchip. If you have any ideas of what the problem might be please let me know.
