Cdrom Not Reading Psx2 CD

I just got Psx2 & i would like to make back-up but i pop in the game, and its if i haven't put anything in the CDrom?
Is this normal? Do i need a program to see it or is my cdrom?
I need find out whats going on, i'm abit lost & i'm searching the light.

If the PS2 'cd' you happen to have is actually a DVD then NO cd rom on earth will read it.

you need a dvd writer i don't know if you can buy them or how much they are

Forget the idea of a DVD writer as they cost over £2500.00 and at present there is no ripping software available that supports PS2 DVD's.

Yes, you can copy ps2 games... but ONLY non DVD ones.

The quickest way to tell if a game is a dvd or cdr is look at the back.
If its purpleish, its a cdr and can be read/copied. If it has a gold back its a DVD and cant be read by a normal cdr drive.

Hmm so if i had a dvdrom i would be able to see whats on dvd format?
But in order to burn psx2 dvd format games i would need a dvd burner?

Thanks for all the re: i can read non-dvd cds and copy them...
Now use do i get them to work? i've look around for a cd boot-up or a patch 2 boot it.
what are the best programs to use? In my case, easy to use or user friendly?
