NTSC To PAL!?

I have a Japanese copy of Crash Bandicoot 2, and I have just bought a PS-X-Change CD, I am using the Import Player CD from megagames to make it so it's a PAL TV Mode instead of NTSC, I have also tried to use the PAL4U patcher, and I get the same problem, it runs ok for the first 1/2 - 1 second or so, then slows down to snails pace, I have tried using an original and back-up, and neither will work, please help me!
