cdclone help

I have been told to make working copies of psx protected games you have to be able to read and write the game in raw data..is this true?..Ihave a ricoh 7083a which i have to use for reading and writing as my atapi reader is not compatable.But i can not read in raw data,but can write in it.
Any help much appriciated......also anyone know where to get a cdclone competerbility list?
