Newbie help???
OK, I just bought a new CD -RW Recorder. The sales people told me I could back-up and play my sony play station games. I have been looking at some sites and am seeing some thing about a mod chip. What is this, and is there any way around it?? If any body can give me some help on this and/or about making back-ups, that would be helpful.

Just because you now have a burner does NOT mean you can backup PSX games, sales people are notorious liars when it comes down to the capabilities of the device they are selling.
Post the make and model of your burner if you really want advice. You will always need a modchip to play copied games. |

hi rps, everybody was a newbie at one time, first you will need a mod chip, you can buy a plug-mod that plugs in the back of your console or buy a chip that requires you to solder it onto the board inside your PSX [its really not that hard] Also alot of cd writers come with easy cd creator which is the worst gamecopy software there is. BUY CDRWIN its the best PSX copy software period. Also buy a good brand of cdr like sony or tdk because the laser wont read some of the cheap cdr's, it also wont read a cdrw disc. copy to your hd first then to cdr . if this doesnt help read the back post in this forum you will find answers to most of your questions there. good luck!!!

Instead of installing a modchip in your ps, you can use a game enhancer which contains a modchip but simply plugs into your parallel port. You`ll just need any original ps disk to boot up the backup, no soldering needed.

once you copy the disk using cdrwin do you need to find the patch for it or what is the patch for? thanks for your info so far! reason i asked about the mod chip is a friend was in a news group and someone was saying you did not need one now, so that's why i asked.

Not all games need to be patched! you only patch games that are mod chip protected or if you are copying an import game pal/ntsc or visa versa.

[You need to check out WWW.PSXCOPYWORLD.COM and click on psx patches. It'll give you an A-Z list of games. You need to find the game your looking for and see if there's a protection fix for it. You might find the game but just and ntsc/pal fix. The one your looking for is protection fix..
Hope that helps. Anymore info mail me on RYANS23**********COM

so, if ther is no protection fix program you are ready to burn your copy of that game? all you need then is either the mod chip or the plug mod chip? also, how trustworthy is psxtune.com and their plug mod chips or are they all the same? thank you for all the help so far.

try putting the original game you want to copy into a modded PSX if the game is mod chip protected it will tell you mod device found and wont play the game.THEN you apply a patch. IF the original game plays normal then it doesnt need to be patched
