Help with Resident evil is a patch required???

iam new to copying psx games i have a 4x8 panasonic burner.. i have wasted 8 blank cd's trying to copy resident evil.i've read all the information on how to copy psx games downloaded cdr and cd clone can anyone out there support me... i load the psx game into the console the initial game screen comes on then it crashes ???? i used the ppf o matic to apply patch??? please help.which patch do i use.....i tried using adaptec cd creator.....
