Will my model HKT 3030 Dreamcast play backups?
I purchased a second hand unboxed Dreamcast today (UK), and I was wandering if anyone could tell me if I will have any problems playing backups with this model, (HKT 3030). I have read that with some later models the BIOS have been changed. I have the Utopia boot cd which works, but have not got any backups to try.
I would be grateful if anyone with this model could let me know. Thanks |

That's hard to believe. If you have a sticker on the bottom of the machine with a serial number, model number and such, it should also include the date of manufacture.
My label had five alternating panels of black, white, black, white, black. The first panel is black with white text and has the name and model number (Dreamcast HKT-3020) The second panel is white with black text and contains the warnings about electrical shock if the case is opened. The third panel is black with white text and contains the FCC compliance statement (Part 15) The fourth panel is white with black text - THIS IS THE PANEL YOU FIND THE DATE!! It states the product compliance with DHHS RULES 21 CFR SUBCHAPTER J and at the bottom of that panel is has the date. In the case of mine it says: MANUFACTURED: June, 2000 WK The final panel (fifth one) is Black with white text and is the Patent information and the type of machine [NTSC, JAP, PAL, etc] Now, re-examine your sticker... You'll likely find that the fourth panel (white with black text) states when it was manufactured. If not, sorry, but we cannot help you figure out if it will work... You'll just have to try it yourself and if copies don't work for you, oh well... |

I'm pretty sure there was a MFG date on his machine, Wayne, its just that who could have ever thought that MFG meant Manufactured?!? I mean, that has got to be one of the hardest abbreviations I ever saw!

I can assure you that there is no MFG date or any other dates printed anywhere on my console. I have thoroughly checked all the stickers on the underside of my Dreamcast and there is no date whatsoever. Only a model number, Serial number, etc. I will just have to try a backup game and see.

There is no date at the bottom of the dc. All dcs in europe haven't it. But your dc (model HKT 3030)can play backups, cause I got the same dc and it works fine with backups.

Thankyou Redsuns. I did get Sonic 2 to work fine, so hopefully others will too.
