If you think about this method you will find that it is a nice solution to eliminate the audio gap of those ~27 mb.
Native solution in making selfbootable cd's was the initial audio raw track of about 27 megs.
In some cases these 27 mb of space would be a chance to make no downsample of any movie or other parts of the game.
So in Shenmue2 we can see the latest method in making selfbootable cd's but...there is a but I have lost a day(and about 10 cd's) in trying to reproduce a cd with this tecnique with no results.
Issue is the same: how to make indexes referring to files chosen in the first track and still having the second track with the bootsector built in it.

So what to say? Hope in my spare time I will find an idea about the new method used by Echelon.
