Fifa 2001 patch?

I have a messiah chipped V5 ps2, which runs all my backups just fine, with the exception of one:- Fifa 2001 for psx, when trying to boot this it comes up with the ps1 boot logo then stalls, is the disc at fault (not top quality media) or do I need to patch this title?

As far as I was aware messiah needs no patches, or is it the EA side of it. I have another EA game that runs fine.

Any pointers / advice appreciated
