Latest versions of ezcd always install latest aspi layer so i dont think it is that .
have you run system tests which is needed for ezcd to reckognize some writers this often cures the problem , it also cures the problem why some computers wont let you sellect top speed for writer installed, Also make sure the version of software used does support that version of software , look on the roxio site there are some patches and will tell you what writers are supported hope this helps
