A weak laser can still play DVD movies as my article above explains. But it won't read DVD-Rs, again for the reasons explaines in the above article.

So you have to ascertain which of the problems it is:

1 Your laser needs replacing (try recalibrating - via your installer)
2 The burned games are not correctly burned or poor media

Most likely to be 1 because your PS2 is well used & v3.
