I've got fifa 2002 on dvdr as well. The game itself (even on original) slows down ever so slightly but not drastically.
Just out of curiousity, next time it does start to slow down reset your machine and watch the fmv intro. If this starts jumping then try using better dvdr media (pioneer and panasonic work a treat for me, although i don't know what u're using at the mo) Let me know
