If I was to make a backup of my DVD-movie and if I was to make VCD or SVCD witch program would to be prefered DIVx 1.7 / TMPGEnc 2.5 ????

, what are the pros and cons.

sorry, i've only used tmpgenc, but i've used many others? bit of a conflict there

tmpgenc is the encoder that is the de facto standard, and you will find the most support for it online.

the conflict means ive used many but only tmpgenc out of the two mentioned
