Question Burning PS2 Games Without A Modchip

Hi,
I recently purchased a new DVD - Rom drive (LG DRD-8160B). I have a Plextor W12/10/32A CD-Rewriter. I want to make working backups which don't involve any kind of swap trick or anything which involves taking the PS2 apart. However, above all i definately DON'T WANT TO BUY A MODCHIP!!! I don't know about you guys but I would like to keep my warranty valid! Anyway, I just wanted to know how on earth you burn a working backup correctly. I have a SCPH-30003R Playstation 2. I know you guys know what you are doing so any help would be absolutely fantastic! I wondered what software to use and the settings that it needs to burn the backup correctly. I am a newbie and would love any help you could offer.

Thank you for your time,
LUFCfan

With all the stipulations you have, you are basically OUT OF LUCK. There is no way to make a working backup without the use of a mod chip. Also you stated you didn't want to have to swap. There are only a handfull of MODCHIPS that can do that. Rec. is to say SCREW the warranty and get a Messiah mod chip... Have it installed by someone who has done it before...... SORRY for the bad news but thats LIFE......

Agree with above reply, what you ask for is wonderful in an ideal world but this is reality.
You are asking the impossible. No-one would invalidate warranty if there was another way round it, but there aint.

If you want to run 'backups' you WILL HAVE TO HAVE A MODCHIP and possibly swap aswell unless you are willing to pay bout $700 for a chip.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

... But you didn't say which mod you were referring to at £250 = $700 AUS.

Attn Charlie new chip

ref chip at $700.

I cant remember where it was exactly, however chips are generally easier to get here in Oz, and more expensive, for following reasons:-

The law here is different regarding copyright, currently The Aussie ACCC commission have Sony in court challenging right to region dvds in favour of owners being region free. (i know its not a drama anyway but...) so chips here are being sold freely and easily, but because of this the price is being hiked up a bit.

The chip I referred to I read about on a website and its still in testing due for release shortly, I'll be stuffed if I can recall its name, (as at that price I had no intention of buying it anyway) however this is going to be the 'Ducks nuts'
It apparently resolves everything, no swaps, reboots, holding buttons in, plays the ish, and no dvd probs either, removes macro, plays any dvd, etc.

If I come across it again I'll post link here

Ron
