First time i started GTA3 it was also very very slow.
I've defrag my HD but that wasn't the solution. After i installed the newest NVidia Detonator XP (Date: 09.MAR.2002) the game runs in full speed !!! My GraphicCard is a ASUS V7700 Series with NVidia GForce2 GTS deluxe.
