as far as I know it pops a fuse cause it shorts out the PS2.
that's usually an easy and cheap fix.. unfortunately I don't know which fuse specifically (fuses are small, black boxes with a number on top), but it should be easy to replace. if you got a multimeter, check any fuses near the connector.
