LG CD-RW CED-8080B - Can't write 8x?

I just got a brank new dell P3 933 Mhz...outfitted.... with one of THOSE burners... problem is, it won't burn any faster than 4x...well it WILL but only with the EXPENSIVE brand CD-Rs....this makes me angry...1- is there a way to fix this? 2- Is there a way to BYPASS it? So it burns faster anyway?

The CD-Rs I use are Gigastorage good for up to 16x, and i KNOW they work at 8 since i did 14 of them on a friends computer, they are lightblue bottomed, the verbatim that came with the burner is Dark Blue bottom.

Can someone PLEASE help? email me [email protected]

A strange one this. What software are you using to backup your discs? Some of the copying packages will allow you to alter the "disc cache" for writing (I have an 8x Traxdata writer & use a 6MB disc cache or more with no probs, which I setup in CloneCD - good help file).

Also, make sure there are no programs running in the background whilst writing, as these degrade performance.

I have had no probs burning cheap media at 8x. By cheap I mean media that has come from the Ritek factory: Mirror, Nugen, Diskhouse etc. Try some other cheap brand and see if the same thing happens - sometimes writers just do not work well with particular brands, especially considering these brands have very low quality controls. If this test fails thene perhaps there is something else wrong with your system/writer than the quality of the media?

You can actually see where your blank media was manufactured by donloading a program called CDR Identifier, from http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_utils.shtml.

There is a good link for media quality at:

http://megagames.com/psx/psx_cdr_media.htm#CD-R Media

Also worth a look is the link at:

http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_quality.shtml#Introduction

Finally, I don't wish to be disrepectful of LG stuff, but my friend bought some of their CD-ROM drives and had them fail in a short time.

All the best.
