Question What do I need to backup my own games?

ok, real newbie here in terms of backing up my games...saw the wisdom of backing up when I stepped on MGS2 after a marathon 6 hour FFX session, and was handing my credit card to the cashier for a replacement copy

Can anyone help with what sort of equipment (hardware and software) that i need, as well as recommendations on what to look out for while burning?

Thanks a huge bunch!!

thanks. Know any links that go on a step-by-step on how to go about burning, or that's not allowed to be discussed here? Something along the lines on what else is needed, how it's all connected up.....

also, is it better to burn on cdr for games that are on cd, and dvdr for games on dvd? Any advantages why I should use dvdr for all my burns?
