I've noted that when I write my disks at a slower speed 2X they tend to run better and for some reason boot much better without a lot of noise. I think it might have to do with the PS2's ability to read the disk maybe something like sampling. I had the same problem when I attempted to copy my disk with a higher speed PS2 made a lot of noise and was working very hard to boot the disk.
