SONY 80 MINS

Hello all..im new to this board. I recently bought some SONY 80 MINUTES cd-r in a 50 pack spindle. Im not sure who the manufacturer is, since i know that Taiyo Yuden is the best...

I also read that "usually, then the cds say it's made in taiwan, it's a no name manufacturer"...something to that effect. I tried running the cdidentifier program, but it couldnt read the cd..prolly becuase it's not compatible with my cd writer. on the spindle, it only says it's manufactured in taiwan. Sony Electyronics Inc. or Sony of Canada Ltd.

does anyone know whether these are manufactured by a high quality manufacturer like Taiyo Yuden? On the site, it says that Sony cds are only Manufactured by them and Mitsubishi...is it possible that it may be manufctured by Ritek too?? Please help me with this problem..i never knew how big of a difference the manufacutred was...i just always thought of the brand name..and if the brand was good, then the quality must be good.

the ones i bought in canada are made by sony (at least that is what cdr-identifier says).

and i don't think taiyo yuden is the best.

Here in Australia, the Sony CDQ-74N1 and CDQ-80N1's are Made in Taiwan by Sony Corporation using Cyanine (Type 1).

so sony wont have any CHEAP manufacturing companies manufacturing their cds, right? altho it's made in taiwan, it's still manufactured by sony corporation?

so it wont be like TDK's cds manufactured in taiwan by RITEK...which are cheaper than usual, right?

remember: this is only the info that is embedded on the CD and it may or may not be accurate. eg. just because it SAYS manufactured by sony does not mean it actually is.

sorry, i have no answers for your other questions but taiyo yuden, not ritek, are producing the new 24x tdk cd-rs. read that in one of the new tdk writer reviews.

I don't know about you, but the disks I've got right here next to me don't look like RiTEK's. The colour is pretty much the same but:
a) the printing on the inside ring is different
b) the area where the spiral is cut off on the outer edge of the CD is wider
c) RiTEK don't use Sony Corp. in their ATIPs. I've seen RiTEK's use:
- Ricoh Company Ltd.
- Ritek Co.
- AMS Technology Inc.
- Lead Data Inc.

RiTEK, although a "cheap" manufacturer, is one of my favourite CD-R makers. They were known for making inferior quality media, but in the last year, thing seem much better with RiTEK using their improved Cyanine (Type 1) dye.

B.T.W., Cyanine (Type 1) dye is lighter in colour than the previously inferior Cyanine (Type 0) dye. RiTEK are now making Phthalocyanine (Type 5), (Type 6), and (Type 7) dyed media, which also seem very high quality. RiTEK now makes CD-R media for Ricoh under the Ricoh Company Ltd. name.

the sony 80 minute discs i bought were made in taiwan ... both regular jewel case and those non-standard BS thin cases.

if CDR manufacturers are going to use thin cases, they should use ones that are the standard european CD single cases.

by the way, it's not that i have a problem buying ritek CDs ... but i DO have a problem buying TDKs that turn out to be riteks.
