dvdr boot

Hi,

i have fixed my neo4 installation on uk ver3 ps2, tray now comes out/in as its supposed to.

Q. when i try the swap trick for dvdr, i put the backup in and the ps2 just sits there making a whiring wizz sound (?) then goes back to the browser screen after a few mins.

can anyone suggest a few things? (other than binning the thing )

have tried adjusting the dvd lazer pot slightly put didnt appear to make a difference.

help appreciated

ahaa.. after closer inspection i see why i am getting the whiring noise after doing the swap. the tray goes back in on its own okay but the laser assembly stays down and does not come back up to the disk. has anyone seen this problem before and/or can tell me the proper way to boot a dvdr on neo4. everything else is now working fine.

thanks

I've seen this outside NEO4 onm JAP PS2s with auto-eject. In the case I'm thinking of, the spindle doesn't mechanically synch with the tray and the DVD-R isn't properly engaged. This was solved first by assisting the tray on close with a finger push; finally by greasing the tray "rails".

If the spindle isn't pushing up at all, look to your ribbon cable to the servo or some other link, possibly physical.
