The only burning software you should ever require for PSX titles is either CDRWin, or CloneCD (your burner must be 100% compatable). If your burner is compatable with CloneCD then you will still require CDRWin for patching Anti Mod protected games.
Need more information regarding your original question.... Version of game you are backing up... Version of patch you are using... etc...
