Help with dead Version 5 U.S.

I Recently installed a ModChip.___ chip in my PS2 (yeah...I know now). After installation,I booted a PSX backup, and it loaded fine, but I did not play...just testing. Then I booted a non-DVD PS2 backup...it worked up until "loading" the game for play. Then my machine froze up and no longer sees any discs at all!The laser is not dirty, and I have not made any adjustments/calibrations to it.I would appreciate any comments/suggestions that may help.Thank you!

What PS2 Region and version?
What Modchip?
Do the starts/boxes whirl round on boot?
How does the Browser perform with a disk in the tray?

This is a version 5 U.S. (in thread headline),and a ModChip.com 8(6?) wire internal chip.It does not swirl or such....completely and totaly acts as though there is no disc whether one is in or not.Browser works fine...if I try to read disc in browser, it comes up with "disc read error".I am confident of the installation as I have been soldering for 20 years, plus the fact that it did load a PSX backup before freezing on the PS2 backup.I emailed ModChips tech, but no reply (suprise suprise).Thank you in advance for any help!
