The DVD possibility has been answered.
With regard to CD-R drive, here is the CloneCD entry for the Philips 1208: PCRW-1208 K/B (Atapi) Rev. >=3.1 RAW-DAO 16 RAW RAW+16 This is not a good drive for protected CD games which needs to be RAW-DAO+96.
