Leave all the solder points in place, but don't use the pass-thru ribbon (just hook up the ps2 ribbon the way it was) and let us know if it works.
If it doesn't then you know somethings wrong with the board... if it does, then the ribbons might not be hooked up correctly. yadda yadda btw; does the tray make any noise or movement like it's trying to open or is it totally dead?
