I don't think its needed. I just patched my cracked full install of Comando 2 with International patch 1.20 and it's not asking for any cd's. During patching cracked exe was overwritten with a new one (I checked the size). Maybe they removed the protection because of compat. with some cd readers. That happens sometimes.
