Patch problems!!!!

I downloaded some patches for Quake 3 Arena and my machine has been screwed ever since with "Fatal Error" messages. Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else? Could there have been a virus in one of the patches? I'm reasonably new to patching games etc.

Thanks

Jon

ive got quake 3, never used the patches, not yet anyway.

If u got a patch from the official site then i dont think u need to worry as much as if you got it from a third party site, if you did get if from a third party site then use an antivirus program to ##### if you are right that there is a virus, but i doubt it. Plus, have u tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling the game and reinstalled the patches again.

I tried uninstalling (to test the back up CD) and that is when the problems ####ted occuring. I'm not saying its definitley the patch, its just that I couldn't imagine the game software buggering up my pc that much! In the end it wouldn't even boot up to windows - just kept getting fatal exception errors.
