Need Help.. US PS2 w/ SBox USB.. Backups not working

I've got a US Playstation 2 (V2) with an SBox USB Mod, using an external HP CD-Writer 8230 copying with CloneCD version 3.3.3.1.

I'm copying onto Imation CD-R's. I tried twice to burn Tekken Tag - first time reading at 8x and writing at 4x, second time reading at 4x and writing at 2x. Original works fine but backup doesn't.

Both times tried to boot up with GameShark2 as per instructions. It let me insert the backup disk. It read the disk for a couple of seconds and then stopped. PS2 just died. Can anyone offer ideas on how I can get this to work? Am I using a bad version of CloneCD (version 3.3.3.1)? This is my first time attempting to back up a CD game. Thanks.
