Repacking software requires more registry values and system changes than games. The compression part is simpler than games because they mostly contain dlls and exes and you don't need to do much research to compress them.

ofcourse, but not that way too much!

and about application software compression, mostly what i have seen is they had the exes already compressed! but not most dlls, txt, ico, programming files (.lua, .py, etc).
