Complete novice

Hi all, i suppose you have had many requests on here similar to mine. The fact is i am a complete newcomer to the world of computers. After spending a fortune on PSX games for my son, plus replacing damaged games, someone suggested making back-up copies. I have got clonecd and clonyxl ?? but don't know how to use them. I honestly have not got a clue what to do. I have been reading through the messages on this forum, but it's all double dutch to me. So if anyone can offer GENUINE assistance to an oldtimer at his wits ends, i would be most grateful. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

first of all make sure your playstation is chipped !
Most games will copy 1 for 1 with clone cd.
Some games need patching follow this link it will tell you what games need patching and a tutorial on patching

thanks for the input. the lads PSX is chipped, just don't know how to make back up copies. It may be easy to you younger ones, but for an oldtimer like me it is difficult.

two knocks against you Oldtimer, and LG drive and Adaptec software. My brother has and LG and has trouble backing up his games.

If you can't get a modded playstation or a chip to mod the one you have a PS-X-change2 disk will do the job, it's also called a boot disk, and like the name you'd have to boot up with this disk and then swap, boot disk out game disk in.

use the verbatim cd-r's and create a CD-Image using CloneCD with these settings:

Set Read Speed to 1x
Select Read SubChannel Data from Data Tracks
Select Read SubChannel Data from Audio Tracks
Select Fast Error Skip
Set Read Retry to at least 5
Set Error correction to None
UnSelect Don't report bad sectors
UnSelect Intelligent Bad Sector Scanner

To burn image to cd:

Set Write Speed 1x
Select RAW DAO
Select Don't Repair SubChannel Data
UnSelect Simulate Writing (if available)
Select Burn Proof/Just Link (if available)
unSelect Perform Laser Power Calibration
unSelect Wait until Buffers are full
Select Always close last Session

Happy playing!

1:make sure none of these are greyed out subchannel data from data & subchannel data from audio & don't repair data as you need these
2pen cd clone you have got 4 boxes click on the 1st box for read to hard drive
3:tick these settings subchannel data from data tracks & subchannel data from audio tracks & abort on read errors (as psx games never have errors on unless its damage) read speed set to x4
4:writing back to disc click on 2nd box
5:tick these settings don't repair data & always close & (burnproof/justlink if you got it) set on raw/dao write speed x2-x4
here is a link which may help you ####://www.psxcopyworld.co.uk/CloneCD_Tutorial.htm

first of all, whoever said read at 1x speed is crazy, unless you want to wait an hour just to read the damn thing!! your writer is fairly new so i would reccomend reading at 4x speed or 8x speed. if you have problems (because the cd is badly scratched) then read at 1x speed.

Second thing, you can use any media but, the psx laser might not read it so well and the game may freeze or skip on movie files. all cheap crappy cds are easy to spot, they are light green (dont mistake them with tdks because they are a darker green. green cds are weaker, and correct me if i am wrong but they always seem to lose their actual recording layer from the back of the cd, which is real bad!

Good luck burning oldtimer
