Can't burn some games

Some games (eg. pacman) I can not burn,
I guess they are protected in some way
I use cdrwin, and pfu to patch
I have a hewlett packard 8x2x2 r/rw rom

It keeps konking out "unable to read source
file" or something along these lines

Is there a way around this protection? how?
Thanx for your time!!

In RAW mode, CDRWin will read anything except a duff sector.

For protected games, you'd need to patch your way out of the problem but it won't cause a read error.

So your input media is what I would suspect - a read error. Your best hope is to wash the CD in warm soapy water and fingers crossed.

If you are getting a read error it has nothing to do with protection on the disk. Check to see if the source disk is dirty or scratched. If the source disk looks good try turning your computer off for a few minutes and trying again. This has worked for me when I have gotten the unable to read source error. Hope this helps.

Try using clone cd instead, tick the fast error skip & dont report read error boxes.I've tried this with damaged DC,PSX & PS2 disks & 9 times out of 10 you'll still end up with a working copy!

wildthing, if you are getting read errors then the game is damaged and not worth backing up. I see no logical reason to backup a damaged game that at some point will fail when playing. Better off to get a different original to copy from.

I see where your'e coming from there, but it's gotta be worth a wasted disk if he can't get hold of another copy?

I find the best wayaround that problem is to try to read the disk at 1 speed in the writer. Seems to work for me most times. And if you have rented the game and you can see some suface damage, even if you copy it ok take it back to the rental place and complain that the game wouldn't run in your psx. Normally they will give you another rental or your money back, which is great if you have managed to burn a copy.
