Decompression is not determined by memory usage that much but by hard drive speed, remember, merging also takes place and those are one of the causes of slow decompression.

Edit: otherwise, i can just make an x64 of ultra arc but not everybody uses 64-bit operating system, and i have made freearc and srep use more than 2gb ram but result is rather a disaster, for example, srep64, you must have enough memory for it to start, if it needs 4gb ram to use and you have about 3.7gb ram, it will not start then people start posting that the conversion or compression doesn't want to work but it is their system that lacks the resources. Which is why it takes long to (de)compress, it is just a way to accommodate everyone.

Si, but I think that by now the system 64 should have it all.
I do not think that still used in xp or install a new copy of w7 x86.
I in the new "Installer" except the 100% compatibility with "UltrArc", 7z and RAR run only 64bit.
