CDR MEDIA FOR PSX

I would like to know if Comp USA 16x 80min CDRs can work as backups for playstation games and if maxell CD-R74 74min also works beucase I have tryed it with both and neither have worked for me. It might be just me or but I would like to know if anyone else has got either of these two CDRs to work as a backup for a psx game.

In principle any CD-R media will work. Maxell is good quality especially the golds. The problem is more likely to be the copy method. Without more info can't help further. Like what copy software, what burner, patches if any.

Gold cds are probably the worst for PSx, in fact you should be using dark blue cds for best results, Verbatim or Mitsubishi

I only use Verbatim media because of there dark blue layer, there not the cheapest on the market but they are well worth it, i have had no problems with them at all on my PS1 or PS2 making backups. TDK and Sony also do some good quality media which is not bad on price.

Well... I found out what the problem was. It was the CDRS that I had because I just tryed a old RICOH cd that came with my old RICOH 2x burner. It took a long time because I was burning at 2x but it worked. I also tryed burning the comp usa ones at 2x but they still didn't work. I am going to go out and go buy some good cds now like Verbatim DataLifePlus, TDK, or Kodak.

i havn't had a problem with TDK or Memorex and my psx is about at the end of it's life

i have made many copies for my firend using GQ's (from fry's electronics) they werk fine

if i use cdrwin and burn at any speed with shit cds it never works on the psx. but when i use blindwrite the game comes out perfect regardless of the cd quality, i still dont know why blindwrite works so good.

Try the Memorex 700 mb Black Cd-R's

I LOVE black cd's for making psx games. Its the best and closest to the real psx games. I never have problems with them. In Fact, I even use them for my pc games and programs. I love em...

The issue for Black CDs is with the burner and its laser properties. Black is just too much for some of the cheaper burners. Remember also that originals are pressed not burned.

So although a black backup with it's pretty scanned label may be "the closest to the real psx games" in looks, it won't always function. To those with good burners, perhaps you needn't worry.

BOT-CK will advise all of you to stay away from black CD-Rs and I certainly won't use them.
