Ok, I dunno anything bout PS2 DVD ripping, but hell I'll try.

Perhaps the game has protections you need to get rid of?

CKC - have you successfully copied a PS2 DVD with a DVD RAM - like used the backup in the PS2? Nobody else has claimed to have done this - so what have you got that we haven't?

never tried it myself,i have seen info at gamescopy world ,a guide showing how to rip ps2 dvd games so
they work but its a lot of messing about, when i phoned about buying a dvdram i was told it will back
up any type of dvd to disk as long as dvd disks were
used because of the size

CKC - So we're back where we ####ted I'm afraid. Ripping DVD games the hard way is currently the only way to make backups of DVD games because the current copying software doesn't do to DVDs what CDR-WIN or CLONE CD do to CDs.

I'm not bothering and will wait for a solution.

It is hard, but its also possible you need to remove the DVD #####, basically it finds a string and if its not DVD media stops booting, go 2 www.psxcopyworld.com
download a tool caled PSS-Plex, in there is a tool which finds the string for you, then in Hex Workshop you need to change the [2] to [1].
This removes the DVD #####, (You need to do this on the SLES or SLUS file)
Hope you can understand this!!!
Good Luck

anyone know how to rip DVD ps2 game - CKC

CKC - a game issued on DVD in one locale will on DVD everywhere. It's a capacity thing - DVD games lessen the need for multiple discs.

thanks charlie,
i can understand that for the big games but alot of them are only port overs so seems strange when a game come out on the ps1 about 300mb and suddenly
turns into 1.0gb or more

I'm not on solid ground her, but it occurs to me that the port-overs include screen shots and enhancements that take advantage of the higher spec'd graphics handling. So the files will be larger. Just look at a port-over DVD in a PC and see if it's greater than 700MB. If it is less than a CD Full, the ripping process described in this forum might be the answer if you are determined to go to the time and effort.
