Which game are you playing?
Do you have a Stealth mod chip installed? if so then it sounds like you maybe taking too long to swap the disks over as the stealth mod will switch itself off if the cd lid of the PSX is left open for longer than 5 seconds.

Spooky--
Just using a modclip...no chip. Can it be done? Also, my system is missing the ball bearings that hold the disc in. It plays regular games fine, but it looks like the backups wobble. Are the PSX discs a different thickness than regular CDs??? Why does this happen? Is it worthwhile to mod the system in this case? |

External mods are notorious for causing problems with backups either single or multi disk!
I would strongly recommed getting an internal mod installed. As far as the disc wobble is concerned then all disks will wobble to a certain degree, obviously the missing bearings will make this alot worse and could create a situation where the laser cannot read the disc correctly causing the PSX to fail during booting or gameplay. The PSX units anticipate a certain amount of wobble and internal settings help the laser compensate for this and in most cases it should track correctly, but i think that the amount of wobble you are getting due to the missing bearings will be too much for it to handle. Sounds like a new laser is required!

Is there any way I can replace these bearings? Do you happen to know the size of them? Is there a way to replace the black plastic that holds them in as well? Also, are some model numbers better to mod than others? How would a new laser make a difference and where are they available for purchase?
thanks spooky |
