Sorry, had a momentary lapse of concentration!
An internal mo chip would work much better but as you have an SCPH 100x then i would also suggest adjusting the laser! Open up your psx and you will see the laser assembly, there is a thin, almost see through copper coloured ribbon cable that connects to the mainboard. At the top of this ribbon you will see a small POT (Potentiometer) that you can twist from side to side to make the adjustment. You only need to make small adjustments to this and then re test. If the problem gets worse then twist the POT in the opposite direction. CAUTION: Dont use a screwdriver to twist the pot as you could rip it off the ribbon cable, I find just using you little finger with light pressure the best method. There are other adjustments that can be made to the SCPH 100x but you would need a multimeter or oscilloscope to set these up correctly! Let us know how you get on.
