you DONT need to add the pcf as extension.

to use precomp correctly.. extract the files from the Precomp.7z into its own folder
make a text file input this into it

precomp038 -slow -c689 -m68 -opak000.sdpk2 "e:\program files\Brink\base\pak000.sdpk2"

rename the filename.txt to filename.bat ( edit it and CHANGE the path to match where your game is installed ) my path is e:\ ....

It worked perfectly, never had to delete anything.. it created the Brink.arc ( 2.33GB ) DVD5 size is 4.25GB.

Sorry pakrat2k2 but for me it didn't work because precomp created a pcf file called "pak000.sdpk".
It MAYBE could works if you change the name of the file also in the arc command because original from peterf is:
arc a -mx -ld800mb Brink pak000.sdpk2.pcf
