I also had a problem with this one. I could get a working copy but this failed at level 5 (7 K patch). is this the same situation that you have reached or do you atempts fail earlier?
When the second pal patch was released (Euro pal 824k), i simply imaged the previously patched copy and applied the new patch! It worked for me!
