Sometimes, ***video rental shops***, especially larger ones like blockbuster, buy different versions of the game compared to those that you would buy in the shops, well, so i have been told ...
Therefore when u patch the game with the UK pal patch it conks out when the copyright protection kicks in on the gore and violence screen. I don' really know much about video rental stores, i was just reading the help files for PPF-O-Matic and it had some info on rental games in there.
Of course, if this is a copy from a shop then it should work, just check that it is the actual UK PAL version and not some other country PAL version (Although u would probably notice if u were playing the game in french
