Atari want to put in a 1.14 patch for NWN the same protection as in Alone in the Dark: online activation and DVD-check. Do you really think that the petition will change anything? Just talk with your wallet: don't buy any game published by Atari that has a certain protection.

Maybe not, but being silent will definitely achieve nothing.

My understanding of the 1.14 patch is that it will add online activation for subsequent expansions only. I am, of course, boycotting them and have mentioned it on that thread.

That info is just not true.
Only thing they want to put is a system to check ownership of Mysteries of Westgate pack, and any other new downloadable content, that can only be bought online.

Similar to NWN1 premium modules.

It should in no way affect how NWN2, MotB, or even new upcoming expanion (Storm of Zehir) works.

The idea is to protect game assests of such downloadable content, like its haks, modules or so, so you can't, for example, just copy them from someone else, like it's possibile with Oblivion downloadable content, and use them without paying.

Executables still uses old fashioned DVD-check, only.
